I absolutely love this pump because it is so easy to use and is very gentle. With this pump I’m able to express anywhere from 6 to 10 oz. of milk in less than 15 minutes. My only complaint about this pump is that some of the parts are too small to clean in the dishwasher so they need to be hand washed or placed in a basket. This pump has been great for me because I’m an SAHM and only pump occasionally.

Everyone on Earth told me, “Don’t cheap out and get a manual pump! Get the Medela!!!” I do like the Medela, but…well, read on.

Last week, when my baby hit 4 weeks, my husband and I spent the weekend on a mini-vacation while my mother-in-law took care of the baby. I didn’t want to take my big, luggy Pump-in-Style along and set it up in the hotel room, just to express milk that I wouldn’t keep because I had nowhere to keep it. So I went to the drugstore and bought the Avent Isis, about which I’d heard good things.

Compared to the electric pump, this was SOOOOOOO CONVENIENT. All you have to do is hook up an Avent bottle (or disposable breastmilk cup) and go. There’s no tubing to plug in, no bag to lug around, etc. I got just as much milk out of this as I do from my Medela P.I.S. It was easy on my hand, too, and I have a tiny, tiny bit of residual carpal tunnel syndrome left over from pregnancy. The milk just flowed.

Also, I was already using Avent bottles, so that makes this even easier. If you want to store your milk in Avent bottles but use another brand of pump, you have to buy Avent’s bottle-neck adapters. (I have these, too, for the electric pump.)

With the electric pump (for the unfamiliar out there), you have to hook up tubing between the part that gets the milk from your breast, and your electric pump unit (concealed in the fashionable bag). You also have to hook up a plug from your bag/pump unit to the wall. It is annoying if one end of the tubing, say, touches the floor or your pet comes up and gets his face on it before you get started (have to re-clean and start over). There are other annoyances, but the setting up is the most inconvenient part of the electric pump. With the manual pump–and the Avent Isis is a particularly good one–you just hook the bottle to one end of the pump, put it up to your breast, and get milk.

I guess the one advantage of the electric pump is that you can pump both breasts at the same time.

I don’t find the Isis to be remarkably slower than the P.I.S. And I get just as much milk. (Some people don’t.) If I had less money and economy were more of a consideration, I’d surely try this pump first before trying an electric pump.

So…

PROS
–easy setup
–very portable
–gets as much milk as an electric pump (at least, for me)
–economical (much cheaper than electric)
–if you use Avent bottles, it’s easy storage
–almost as fast as electric pump (at least, for me)
–hooks right up to Avent bottles OR disposable cups
–Avent adapters separately available for use with other brands of bottles

CONS
–only pumps one breast at a time
–doesn’t always get good milk from all people, but does from many

Oh! One more thing: if you want to store your milk in bags, whether you use an electric or manual pump, just express the milk into a clean bottle and pour it into a bag. The Medela has a complicated method for expressing right into a bag, but it takes EVEN LONGER to set up. And use Lansinoh bags.

This is a great pump! I initially bought it when I was waiting on a replacement part for my electric pump. I work full time and needed an electric, but found this manual pump to be just as effective! It takes double the time since it is a single not double pump, but it works great. This pump is more comfortable than my electrify, it has a padded insert for the flange and it is very comfortable. I get as much milk as I do with my electric. I often use this pump after I to make sure the breast is empty before work. I highly recommended this pump.

This pump works really well for me. I can pump 5 oz. in about 10 minutes. Just be sure to put all of the pieces together correctly otherwise it will not work and you’ll keep pumping but not get much milk. I would recommend this pump to any mom who wants to give dad a chance to feed the baby once a day. I probably wouldn’t recommend it for anyone who is returning to work because it does take a little effort to pump with this manual.

As long as you can get good suction this pump works really well. All the pieces have to be fitted together just right in order for it to work. It seems as though when I am tired or in a hurry I can’t get suction. But if I take my time, to check everything it works great. The culprit is usually the small round star-shaped valve that is not fitted correctly.

Otherwise, when the suction works, the pump works great and I’m able to get so much more milk (and more comfortably) than with my cheapy Medela Single Electric pump.

Plus, this pump is super convenient since I can pump right into my Avent bottles. This is a really good product for the price.

My little boy and I had problems with breastfeeding from the first day, and it took us about 3 weeks to really get the hang of it. During those three weeks I had to pump for every feeding. Because of our problems he had lost quite a bit of weight in the beginning and I had to feed him every 2 hours. So I was doing a LOT of pumping.

If I had known I would have to pump so much, I would have bought a double electric pump. But this little pump did a great job. I kept trying to get him to latch on and eventually when he was three weeks old we got it. I’ve been exclusively breastfeeding him for the past 9 months and I have the Avent Isis manual breast pump to thank.

The only drawback of this pump is that the let-down cushion didn’t work for me. It kept coming off and causing me to lose suction. Once I took it off completely I never had another problem.

I Have 2 children and for both child i use the avent Isis manual breastpump.(not the same piece)
I love it, it’s lightweight and easy to carry around. It pumps directly into the storagebag.
It’s very durable as i often drop my things.

Only 1 complain, The little star valve if use long- about 3 month intensively , becomes softer and also ‘pop’ out from the funnel causing the pump to lose it’s suction. Very irritating

Whatyou have to do is to buy and replace the star valve andevery thing will be back to normal.

Roughly it took me 15 min to empty both breast at about 6 or 7oz per pump.
