Dr. Browns Electric Breast Pump
Adrian M.  ()

My friends all told me that they loved their Dr. Browns Manual pump, but I did not want to manually express my milk. Then I heard about the rekease of the Dr. Browns electric breast pump. I searched high and low, but could only find my pump at several stores.

I HIGHLY recomend this pump! It works great!

I just started using my Dr. Brown’s pump and I have yet to find anything to complain about except for the fact that it isn’t available in a double pump. Pumping with it is not at all what I expected – based on what I’ve heard other moms say about pumping. It hasn’t been painful at all and I think it must be the combination of the soft honey comb massager and the one way airflow feature. This pump does not pull or pinch (from what I’ve be told there are some pumps that do).

I lookedall over for this pump because it is supposed to be the new Whittlestone (which my sister-in-law swore by) so finally I called the company and was able to find it at BreastPumps.com (and the shipping was free!) If you are worried that pumping will be painful this is the pump for you.

This pump works wonderfully for me. When I was at the hospital, I used one of their big electric pumps (which is supposed to be the best), but this handheld electric works much better for me. I was amazed at how easily I was able to express milk with the Dr. Brown’s pump. Just be sure that you have the vacuum set as low as possible because I accidentally had it at the highest the other day and it was pretty uncomfortable until I noticed what the problem was. This pump is easy to clean and assemble. And best of all it works with Dr. Brown's bottles.

If you are looking for a single pump then this is the one for you. I only wish they had a double electric breastpump.

I bought this pump before I had my first baby because I read so many good things about it. After I went back to work and started really using it, I had nothing but trouble.

Reasons I did not like this pump or had trouble with it:

  1. The pump was very loud.
  2. The pump did not work up to standard when I tried to use it with the 9V batteries.
  3. The pump did not express much milk at all-I could pump for almost 30 minutes and only get 1-2 ounces (combined both breasts) most of the time.
  4. I seemed to be very prone to plugged ducts using this pump.
The honeycomb liners became deformed after about 1 month of use - to the point where
  5. I wasn't getting a good seal & the pump was not working. I had to have Handi-Craft overnight me a whole box of these liners.
  6. The worst part of my experience was that after about 6 weeks of use, my pump just flat out died on me at work one day. I had to drive 25 minutes one-way and take 1.5 hours off work to go rent a hospital pump to use in the meantime.

I give this pump 2 stars only because the one positive thing I did experience was the comfort level of this pump. When I was pumping-it was so comfortable that I could hardly tell it was working (except for the loud screeching noise that it makes). Also-I will give the Handi-Craft company snaps for their excellent customer service. In the end-they made it right with me regarding my troubles and I am currently using another brand of pump.

Dr. Browns Manual Breast Pump

All that I can say is WOW! I used this pump after using a particularly painful manual pump (that was given to me at the hospital) and I can’t believe the difference. The Dr. Brown’s pump is so gentle. I credit this pump to changing my mind about pumping. I was very close to giving up when a friend suggested the Dr. Brown’s and I am glad that I listened to her. Since this pump doesn’t pull or pinch, I am much more relaxed when I pump.

LOVE IT! LOVE IT!!! I've been using Dr. Brown's for about 3 weeks (the baby is 6 weeks old). I chose the Dr. Brown's pump because I have had such success with their bottles. I pumped with it a couple of times a day and have found it extremely comfortable. I LOVE the fact that I can ADJUST THE SUCTION as necessary. I highly recommend this pump to anyone who wants to control how much suction is exerted on her nipples. It is worth the money!
